CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

The International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) has officially requested the American Petroleum Institute (API) to develop a new gasoline engine oil specification, which is expected to supersede the current ILSAC GF-6 specification, and continue to address increasing environmental legislation. There are ongoing efforts in the Industry to support the timely introduction of new specifications in a sustainable manner, while delivering benefits in key performance areas and consumer value. However, there are several other factors that must be taken into account as the lubricants industry looks to the future: Incorporation of new performance areas, and the impact on the overall technology approach Performance test development and maintenance through category The growth of low viscosity lubricant requirements The global nature of passenger car lubricants and the practical implications in regional markets This paper will discuss the intent and approach we see within the industry, and explore the emerging practical challenges and performance challenges that the industry will face as we look to the future.
