Stolthaven Terminals becomes key UK hub for ExxonMobil basestocks
Stolthaven Terminals has been selected by ExxonMobil Basestocks to serve as a primary storage and distribution hub in the United Kingdom, enhancing ExxonMobil’s ability to meet the increasing demand for high-quality base oils. These oils are crucial for producing a variety of products, including lubricating greases, motor oils, and metal processing fluids.
The strategic partnership is supported by a long-term storage tank rental agreement at Stolthaven’s Dagenham facility. Ideally located along the River Thames, just 15 miles from Central London, the terminal will allow ExxonMobil to import and store base oils from its global manufacturing sites, streamlining supply to its customers across the UK, Europe, and beyond.
Stolthaven’s Dagenham terminal, which has undergone significant modernisation and now boasts over 170,000 cubic metres of storage capacity, offers advanced infrastructure, including upgraded jetty facilities that improve discharge rates, reduce turnaround times, and enhance safety and environmental performance. This setup ensures ExxonMobil’s supply chain is optimised to deliver faster and more efficient services to lubricant manufacturers.
ExxonMobil Basestocks EAME Sales Manager Nick Harris noted that “coupled with our Rotterdam refinery, the new Dagenham distribution centre will cover the majority of our customers’ lubricant manufacturing needs in the UK. The facility will enable a more direct supply chain, reduced lead time and simplified customs clearance for imported molecules, ultimately reducing complexity across the entire import process for lubricant formulators.”
Steve Walker, general manager of Stolthaven Terminals in Dagenham, added, “We are pleased to welcome ExxonMobil Basestocks to Stolthaven Dagenham and to provide the expert storage and distribution services that will further enhance their services to customers in the UK, Europe and beyond.”
