Department of Energy bares plan for higher biofuels blend

The Philippine Department of Energy (DoE)announced plans to increase the biodiesel blend of petroleum diesel to as high as 20% over the medium-term. In its revised energy plan circulated to industry players and other stakeholders, DoE proposed to boost the biodiesel blend, which is currently at 2%, to 5% within this year. By 2015, the proposed blend will go up further to 10%, then to 15% by 2020 until it reaches 20% by 2025. For gasoline, the DoE is still convinced that it can set into motion the prescribed 10% ethanol blend (E10) next year, 15% by 2015 and 20% by 2020. (May 10, 2010)
