Total Lubricants recognises Finol with Distributor of the Year award

Finol Oils Ltd., based in Dublin, Ireland, has been awarded the Distributor of the Year award at the global Total Lubricants Conference, which took place in Paris recently. The conference included members of the Total Lubricant team from all over the world and a select number of distributor partners from more than 130 countries.

Finol Managing Director Sean Holland received the award from Total Marketing & Services Lubricants Vice President Philippe Charleux.

Charleux noted that Finol is unique being Totalโ€™s sole distribution partner in Ireland. Finol is also a leader in marketing concepts, he said. Total has taken a lead from some of the ideas that Finol has initiated in Ireland, he added.

Finol Oils was established in 1977 by PJ Oโ€™Loughlin & John Purcell. They won a bid for the distribution business of Petrofina, which was later acquired by Total, for the Fina range of Lubricants. In 1986, after working in the company for nearly 10 years, Dominick Purcell bought out the two founders when they decided to retire.

Over the next few years, the company started to grow and by 1990 the decision was made to move to larger premises in Crumlin where the company still operates today. These larger premises allowed the company to hold a larger quantity of bulk stock, which meant more products could be imported in bulk by tankers and then packaged in Ireland.

In 1995, Finol was appointed a distributor for Elf Lubricants, which was later acquired by Total. Between 1999 and 2001, Total bought Fina, then Elf. The new company continued its distribution in Ireland through Finol.
