Total Lubrifiants launches new synthetic low-viscosity engine oil

Total Lubrifiants announced the launch of a full synthetic, low-viscosity engine oil, Total Quartz Ineo Long Life 0W-20 with Age Resistance Technology (ART). Part of the French oil and gas major Total SA, Total Lubrifiants said that the new engine oil was formulated to meet Europe’s ACEA C5 specification and the technical requirements of vehicle manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Porsche.

The ACEA Oil Sequences define the minimum quality level for service fill engine oils for gasoline, light-duty diesel and heavy-duty diesel engines established by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).  Since their introduction in 1996, the ACEA Oil Sequences have been updated periodically. ACEA released its latest version in December 2016.

ACEA C5 is a new mid-SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur) category, covering low-viscosity grades SAE 0W-20 and SAE 5W-20. The introduction of ACEA C5 has been driven by OEM requirements for improved fuel economy. Engine oils that meet ACEA C5 are intended for use as catalyst compatible oils with extended drain intervals in vehicles with all types of modern after-treatment systems and high performance passenger car and light-duty van gasoline and direct injection diesel engines that are designed to be capable and OEM-approved for use of low viscosity oils with a minimum HTHS (high temperature high shear) viscosity of 2.6 mPa·s.

Total Quartz Ineo Long Life 0W-20 with ART is designed to meet the SAE 0W-20 viscosity grade requirement of European vehicles and is particularly purposed for use in the VW group vehicles, requiring the very specific VW 508.00/509.00 BLUE OIL standard.

Defined by more efficient engines, cars nowadays are designed to do more with less. Total Quartz Ineo Long Life 0W-20 with ART has been designed while factoring in these challenges to provide ultimate protection, 21% more efficient against sludge build-up and 72% more effective against wear compared to the limits set by ACEA.

In summary, this fully synthetic engine oil ensures outstanding wear protection, strong durability and exceptional fuel economy performance, while maintaining the efficiency of emission systems in the latest diesel and petrol engines, Total said.
