VinFast builds second EV plant in Vietnam

Vingroup Corporation has commenced the construction of VinFast’s second electric car factory in Vietnam. The new facility, located in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, spans more than 36 hectares and is set to become a key player in Vietnam’s growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.

The factory will be built in two phases. Phase 1 includes three main production workshops for painting, body welding, and vehicle assembly, with an initial capacity of 300,000 vehicles annually. Production is expected to double to 600,000 vehicles per year in subsequent phases. Remarkably, the first phase is slated for completion by July 2025, just eight months after construction begins—a record in the global automotive industry.

This project will create 6,000 jobs initially, potentially increasing to 15,000 over time, significantly benefiting Ha Tinh’s local economy. It will also attract supporting industries and suppliers, promoting localisation and strengthening Vietnam’s EV supply chain.

The Ha Tinh factory will focus on producing the VF3 and VF5 car lines, with components sourced from VinFast’s Hai Phong facility and local suppliers. Finished vehicles will be sold in Vietnam and exported internationally, supporting VinFast’s expanding global footprint, which includes factories under construction in India, Indonesia, and the United States.

This is the clearest evidence affirming the position of the Vietnamese electric car industry in the world,” said Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.
