Weifang Hongrun Petrochemical to build world’s largest food-grade white oil unit

Chevron Lummus Global LLC (CLG),  a joint venture between Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and McDermott, has been awarded a contract by Weifang Hongrun Petrochemical Technology Co. Ltd. for the licence and design of its 500,000 ton per annum (tpa) white oil hydroprocessing unit and its 200,000 tpa food grade white oil unit, located in Shandong, China. Weifang Hongrun is a fully-owned subsidiary of SinoChem HongrunPetrochemical Co., Ltd., which is a joint venture between SinoChem and Hongrun based in Qingzhou City, Weifang, China. Sinochem Hongrun  produces and sells liquefied petroleum gas, diesel fuel, gasoline, asphalt, and lubricating oil.

CLG will design the units using its proprietary ISODEWAXING and ISOFINISHING technologies. The scope of work also includes the supply of catalysts and proprietary ISOMIX-e® internals.

“CLG is excited to be working with Weifang on this grassroots project, which, when complete, will be the largest food-grade white oil unit in the world,” said Ujjal Mukherjee, CLG’s managing director. “This project will enable Weifang to produce the most premier white oil in the marketplace.”

CLG’s ISODEWAXING technology catalytically isomerises the molecular structure of wax into isoparaffins, offering lower pour points and higher product yields. ISOFINISHING technology uses noble-metal catalysts to produce higher-quality base oils at lower temperatures.
