Bridgestone aims for 35% reduction in CO2 emissions

Tire manufacturer Bridgestone Corp. has drawn up a two-phase strategy for its group-wide carbon-management initiative. The company is aiming for a 35% reduction in its products’ life cycle carbon dioxide emissions, per unit of sales, by 2020 from the 2005 level. The first phase, which will begin this year, will focus on the assessment of CO2 emissions at stages such as raw-material procurement, production, distribution and after-use. The second phase, which will begin in 2011, will concentrate on lowering its CO2 emissions in the supply chain. It envisages reducing tire’ rolling resistance by 25%, to improve the fuel efficiency of automobiles and lessen CO2 emissions from driving. (June 9, 2010)
