Chevron eyes expansion in Malaysia

Chevron Malaysia Ltd. announced plans to open 25 to 30 new fuel stations per year in Malaysia. Chevron currently operates and manages some 420 service stations in Malaysia, excluding those in Sabah and Sarawak. Chevron has been attempting to boost its marketing efforts by sponsoring community projects and offering customer’s luxury holidays and cash prizes. Chevron, which is trying to reduce operating costs in the country, hopes that by expanding retail operations in the country it can do so by spreading out its costs. Because Malaysia’s fuel market is regulated, the current crude price falls have not yet been fully reflected at the pump. (April 27, 2009)
