HPCL to convert Mumbai oil refinery

Indiaโ€™s Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) plans to convert its oldest refinery in Mumbai into a specialty products refinery that will produce lubricants, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), furnace oil, bitumen and naphtha within the next five years. As part of the conversion process, there would be a gradual phasing out of production of conventional products such as petrol, diesel, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the Mumbai unit. HPCL wants to expand its refining capacity for regular products by setting up a new refinery because the Mumbai refinery has no room for further expansion. (July 16, 2012)
