Minister: No dual pricing for diesel fuel in India

Indiaโ€™s Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee denied speculations that the government was considering dual pricing for diesel fuel. “There’s no proposal to introduce dual pricing or increase duties for bridging shortfalls in tax revenues,โ€ Mukherjee said. He stressed that no regressive policy measures will be introduced by the government. Dual pricing for diesel fuel would have helped the government reduce its subsidy bill, but it would have meant higher fuel prices for car owners. (August 7, 2011)
