Indonesia’s power company tries B5 blend

Indonesia has launched a pilot project using biofuels at the Gresik gas-fired power plant. State-owned electricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has begun using biodiesel for the first time at Gresik, which supplies 12% of the total power to the Java-Bali transmission system. The plant’s engines are being fuelled by a B5 biodiesel blend. The Gresik, Java, plant will use about 400,000 kiloliters of biodiesel a year and, if the test is successful, the mix will be used at PLN’s other plants across the archipelago. (February 14, 2009)
