InterOil to ration petrol

InterOil Corp., which is headquartered in Canada, said it was forced to reintroduce petrol rationing in Wewak, Papua New Guinea as supplies of unleaded petrol reached critically low levels in late January. Stocks fell to 9000 liters, which were rationed to filling stations. The shortage was caused by damages to local port facilities in December 2008. The tanker previously used by the company for its bulk fuel deliveries can no longer dock at the Wewak port because of safety concerns. While small deliveries could still get through, demand was high due to great demand following a long period of fuel shortages. (February 2, 2009)
