TAM successfully tests aviation biofuel

TAM Airlines, Brazil’s largest airline, announced that it has successfully conducted its first experimental flight in Latin America using aviation biofuel. According to TAM Airlines, the 45-minute travel of an Airbus A320 using biofuel made from jatropha curcas tree seeds took place off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The formula for the fuel used for this experiment was mixed 50-50 with aviation kerosene. The experimental flight is part of a joint project between TAM, Airbus and engine manufacturer CFM International, joint company between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and General Electric Co. of the United States.
