Toyota seriously considering move of production of key components to China

Hiroyoshi Yoshiki, a senior Toyota executive, said that the company is seriously considering whether it should move to China the production of some of the key components for hybrid and heavily electrified cars. The Chinese government is expected to pass new rules that will require carmakers who want to sell their green car technology in China to make certain components in the country. Toyota also announced that it had obtained approval to introduce its Prius hybrid technology in China pending additional government approval to manufacture and sell the car. Toyota said sales in China rose by 14.9% in August from a year earlier. (September 5, 2011)
