Yamaha expands sales of electric scooters

Yamaha Motor Co. plans to introduce the EC-03 electric scooter in Taiwan this year. The move is in line with the companyโ€™s goal of increasing sales of electric scooters abroad. Yamaha wants to dominate what could become a crowded market. The company introduced electric scooters in 2002 and began selling electric scooters in Europe in spring 2011. It said it will continue to sell inexpensive gasoline-powered vehicles in developing countries. However, government subsidies in the industrialized nations are expected to boost sales of electric scooters in those regions and Yamaha wants to boost sales to 1,000 units annually.(August 19, 2011)
