Slicker Recycling doubles efforts with Safetykleen Partnership in UK

Slicker Recycling and Safetykleen Europe, two prominent parts cleaning and waste management firms in Europe, have formalised a partnership aimed at significantly increasing the collection and re-refining of used oil in the UK. This collaboration builds on a nearly decade-long relationship between the two companies and is expected to double the volume of used oil Slicker Recycling processes from Safetykleen’s operations.

The partnership is a strategic move that supports the circular economy by promoting the reuse of waste oil, which would otherwise be discarded or incinerated. Over the coming months, Slicker Recycling plans to expand its operations and administration teams to handle the increased volume.

Mark Olpin, executive chairman of Slicker Recycling, expressed enthusiasm about the formalisation of their collaboration with Safetykleen. “Safetykleen is a business we have worked with for nearly 10 years and during that time we have built a superb relationship and mutual respect. “We are two of the largest and fastest growing environmental and sustainability specialists, so our partnership is great news for both businesses. Not only does it formalise how we work together, but it also gives the opportunity for more used oil to be collected, re-refined and put back into the economy in a sustainable way.

Oliver Kunc, managing director for the UK and Ireland at Safetykleen, also highlighted the benefits of the partnership. “Working more closely with Slicker Recycling allows us to significantly increase the amount of used oil we recover. This is a positive step for the environment and the economy, as it leverages our specialist knowledge to make a meaningful impact,” Kunc stated.

The announcement follows a series of acquisitions by Slicker Recycling, including the purchase of Oil Monster last year and the acquisition of U.S.-based oil treatment company Hydrodec in 2021. These strategic moves have positioned Slicker Recycling as a leader in the recycling and re-refining of over 75 million litres of used oil and commercial garage waste annually.

Safetykleen operates across 11 European countries and extends its services to Brazil and Turkey, leading the way in parts washing, surface treatment, and chemical application services.
