Local lab to test for vehicle emissions and fuel efficiency

A S$5.8 million (US$5.26 million) internationally recognized facility to test and certify vehicles for emissions and fuel efficiency is starting operations in Singapore. This means car dealers, traders and owners no longer have to incur hefty freight charges to have their vehicles tested and certified by test centers overseas. The center is equipped to test and certify that vehicles are in compliance with the more stringent Euro V exhaust emission standards. The Land Transport Authority co-funded the laboratory set up by ComfortDelgro, the worldโ€™s second largest public listed passenger land transport company with a total fleet size of more than 43,700 vehicles. The opening of the VICOM Emission Test Laboratory (VETL) means Singapore is now one of the few countries in the world to have an internationally recognized independent test center. (October 8, 2009)
