NCP declares Shell’s Pandacan oil depot operations “safe”

The OECD Dutch National Contact Point (NCP) dismissed the complaint submitted by two non-government organizations against Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. last May. The NCP ruled that the operations of Pilipinas Shell at its oil depot in Pandacan is “safe” and in accordance with international standards. NCP is the body tasked to assess complaints filed with the OECD, an organization of 30 market democracies. If the NCP finds a complaint against a company valid, a mediation process will be launched to resolve the problem. In its final report, the NCP reported that based on its investigations, Shell in Manila did not violate any environmental or health regulations. (September 2, 2009)
