BorgWarner to supply China’s FAW

BorgWarner said it will supply turbochargers and exhaust gas recirculation valves for various cars and light commercial vehicles built by China’s First Automotive Works (FAW) starting in 2010. BorgWarner said its products will help FAW, the oldest and largest Chinese automaker, meet China’s more stringent emissions standards. FAW, based in Changchun, sold 1.5 million vehicles in 70 countries last year. “In China, increasingly strict emissions legislation is driving the trend toward turbo-charged gasoline engines with smaller displacement. Vehicles are more fuel-efficient, more eco-friendly and more powerful,” said Roger Wood, general manager of BorgWarner Turbo & Emissions Systems. BorgWarner, a U.S.-based supplier with facilities in Ningbo, China, said its turbocharging technology will be used in FAW’s new 1.3-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline engines for compact and mid-size cars. It will also supply valves for the 3.0-liter diesel power unit for FAW’s light commercial vehicles. (August 12, 2009)
