EIA sees GTL, CTL growth in China, India and South Africa

In its 2009 International Outlook, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has forecasted growth for coal-to-liquid (CTL) and gas-to-liquid (GTL) fuel. According to the EIA report, there will be production of some 1 million barrels per day (bpd) of CTL fuel by 2030. Also, by then, GTL will have emerged as a leading source of energy. Despite numerous announced CTL projects in Australia, the EIA said CTL growth will primarily occur in China, India, South Africa and possibly, the U.S., where CTL will be available by 2015. The EIA forecast assumed that world energy use will grow by 44% between 2006 and 2030, despite the current global economic crisis. (June 10, 2009)
