Hyundai Motors tops sales volume growth in China

South Korea’s largest automaker, Hyundai Motors, has bested the other auto companies in China, posting the highest growth rate in sales volume in October 2011. Hyundai Motors sold 80,598 cars, up by 36.6% year-on-year in October. The second largest carmaker, FAW-Volkswagen (Yiqi Dazhong), posted a 32.6% increase, while top seller Shanghai Volkswagen (Shanghai Dazhong) upped its sales volume by 31%. Shanghai General Motors, the third biggest car company in China, registered a 13.8% increase, while Changan Ford Mazda registered growth of 27%.
Hyundai’s mid-sized sedan Langdong accounted for the leap in sales growth. Langdong was strategically designed to cater to the local customers’ preference. Its sophisticated style and economy has made it a popular choice. Hyundai sold 11,613 units of the new model in August, 15,243 in September and 18,207 in October this year. Another model, Tucson, known locally as ix35, posted a 64.5% increase in sales, with 12,519 units sold in October. The company is confident that the recently completed production plant in China would enable it to meet increasing demand. (November 25, 2012)
