Karnataka tells road transport companies to run on biofuels

The Karnataka state government in India has announced that it wants road transport companies within the state to run their vehicles on biofuel blends by next year. According to Transport Secretary M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corp. (KSRTC) has already been running 1,500 buses on biofuel, which should continue to increase to as much as 5,000 units next year, the government-set target. Also, the government will gradually require all auto-rickshaws in Karnataka state to run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). (June 6, 2009)
