PTT studies expansion of ethylene capacity

PTT Plc will conduct a feasibility study in 2008 to explore a second-phase, 1 million ton-per-year expansion of its ethylene capacity that will start up in 2011. PTTs planned No. 7 natural-gas separation plant is expected to supply the feedstock for the expansion. PTT Polyethylene, PTTs petrochemical arm, is currently building a 1 million ton-per-year ethane cracker that will be completed in October 2009 at Map Ta Phut in Rayong Province. This cracker will draw feedstock from PTT’s No.6 natural-gas separation unit. Phase IIs completion will give PTT the capability to produce a total of 3.5 million tons per year of ethylene, further consolidating its position as Southeast Asia’s largest ethylene producer.
