SLPA to double bunker storage facilities

In order to accommodate a growing number of ship fuel suppliers, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has decided to double bunker storage facilities in Colombo. SLPA is increasing bunker storage to 95,000 metric tons, with the aim of making Colombo a bunkering hub. Currently, a storage tank with a capacity of 5,200 metric tons (MT) is being built to store marine diesel fuel. This storage tank will cost Rs 90 million rupees (US$816,175). SLPA is in the process of identifying the best location to construct another tank, as well as planning additional berthing for oil tankers. (March 2, 2011)
