SEQENS’ extreme pressure additives added to EU’s LuSC list

SEQENS announced that its two extreme pressure additives, SULFAD® 1710E and SULFAD® 1711E, have been added to the EU’s Lubricant Substance Classification (LuSC) list, a white list of components and packages approved for use in lubricant formulations intended to be submitted for European Ecolabel certification.

To provide an opportunity for lubricant users to select environmentally compatible and biodegradable lubricants, the European Union (EU) established Ecolabels at a national and an EU-level.

The Lubricant Substance Classification is a list of substances and products which fulfill the relevant criteria of the EU’s Ecolabel for lubricants. These criteria were revised upon the EU Commission Decision 2018/1702/EU, from November 8, 2018. The testing and rating of products is based on their biodegradability, level of aquatic toxicity, and renewability by a competent authority. The release of products is granted through a Letter of Compliance (LoC).

The application process for the EU-Ecolabel, along with the related decision-making process of competent authority, are significantly faster and simplified when using additives in lubricant formulations which are included in the LuSC-list.

Extreme pressure additives for metalworking fluids and greases

SULFAD 1710E and SULAD 1711E are recommended for metalworking fluids and  greases. SULFAD 1710E and SULFAD 1711E are a light colored, low odour sulfurized mixture of natural fatty acid esters.

SULFAD 1711E is a non-copper corrosive additive compatible with all metals, whereas  SULFAD 1710E is not compatible with yellow metals.

SULFAD 1710E and SULFAD 1711E have good solubility in Group I, II, and III paraffinic base  socks, and well as in naphthenic base stocks,  depending on base oil origin.

Because of their low viscosity, SULFAD® 1710E and SULFAD 1711E can be ideally used for  formulating metalworking fluids such as deep hole drilling, grinding and honing oils from  which good cooling effect is required.
