STLE appoints new executive director in leadership transition

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), a leading technical society in the tribology and lubrication engineering sector based in Park Ridge, Illinois, U.S.A., has announced the retirement of its long-serving executive director, Edward P. Salek, CAE. After a 27-year tenure, Salek will retire on January 2, 2024. Rebecca Lintow, CAE, currently serving as STLE’s director of professional development, will take over the reins as the new executive director starting October 1, 2023.

Ryan Evans, Ph.D., STLE’s former president and chair of the search committee from The Timken Co., praised Salek’s contributions, noting the society’s growth under his leadership. Evans expressed enthusiasm about Lintow’s appointment, highlighting her vast experience and the fresh perspective she brings to the society.

Salek, who took over the reins as STLE executive director in September 1996, has been instrumental in implementing strategic plans, fostering community engagement, and representing STLE at various industry events. Reflecting on his tenure, Salek expressed pride in the organisation’s achievements and voiced confidence in Lintow’s capabilities to lead STLE into a promising future.

Lintow, an alumnus of Benedictine University, joined STLE in October 2021. With more than 15 years in nonprofit management roles, she has a rich background, having worked with organisations like the AED Foundation and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago. As STLE’s director of professional development, Lintow played a pivotal role in executing technical education programs and overseeing membership and certification initiatives.

On her appointment, Lintow remarked, “It’s a privilege to step into this role and further STLE’s mission. I’m eager to collaborate with our dedicated team and continue the society’s legacy.”

STLE President, Hong Liang, Ph.D., from Texas A&M University, emphasised the diverse expertise within STLE and expressed optimism about the organisation’s future under Lintow’s leadership. STLE was established 79 years ago on March 3, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, as the American Society of Lubrication Engineers (ASLE). The American Society for Lubrication Engineers changed its name to the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers in 1987.
