CNPC studies ethanol plants in Guangxi

China National Petroleum Corp is conducting a feasibility study to build two ethanol plants in Guangxi. The plants will be built near the cities of Wuzhou and Laibin, in southwestern China. Both plants will have an annual capacity of 200,000 tons of fuel ethanol made from cassava. Another ethanol plant of similar capacity will be built by China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corp in Hepu, Guangxi ,which will require an investment of RMB860 million (US$110.86 million). CNPC was also considering building about 200 petrol stations in Guangxi to sell the fuel ethanol mixture. (January 23, 2007)
