General Motors India to expand diesel portfolio

General Motors India Pvt. Limited is expanding its diesel portfolio across small cars, sedans, and multi-utility vehicles to address the growing demand for diesel cars in India, as petrol car sales continue to decline. Lowell C. Paddock, president and managing director of General Motors India, said the company’s new generation of diesel cars offer fuel efficiency that is 15-20% more than a comparable petrol car; furthermore, the price difference between diesel and petrol in India has made diesel cars more attractive to consumers. The company sold 111,510 cars last year and expects modest growth this year. (June 29, 2012)
