Ampol partners with OneH2 to boost Australia’s hydrogen sector

Ampol, formerly known as Caltex Australia, has forged a partnership with OneH2, Inc., a U.S.-based hydrogen equipment manufacturer. This collaboration aims to strengthen OneH2’s presence in the Australian hydrogen market.

Through this alliance, Ampol will introduce a comprehensive hydrogen refueling solution in Australia. This initiative will enable customers to explore hydrogen technology and understand its potential in aiding their decarbonisation efforts.

Brent Merrick, Ampol’s executive general manager for International and New Business, said that collaborating with OneH2 complements Ampol’s existing fuel offerings. He emphasised Ampol’s proficiency in transport fuels and the parallels between hydrogen and traditional fuel products. “Our partnership with OneH2 signifies our commitment to providing future-ready energy solutions that are safe and reliable,” Merrick said.

Highlighting hydrogen’s pivotal role in curbing emissions, Merrick noted its potential in decarbonising challenging sectors like heavy transport and machinery. He anticipates swift hydrogen adoption, especially among heavy vehicle fleets, due to its advantages over current electric alternatives.

OneH2’s President and CEO, Paul Dawson, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership. He praised Ampol’s proactive approach to hydrogen in transportation. “Our collaboration with Ampol, a distinguished Australian transport energy provider, is a testament to our shared vision,” Dawson said. He emphasised OneH2’s extensive experience in the U.S. hydrogen sector and expressed confidence in expediting hydrogen adoption in Australia.

Initially, Ampol plans to introduce OneH2’s on-site refueling services, ensuring customers can safely refuel their hydrogen equipment as needed.
