BASF and Envision Energy partner on e-methanol production

BASF and Envision Energy have inked a collaboration to further optimize the conversion of green hydrogen and carbon dioxide into e-methanol.

Envision Energy is a Chinese multinational corporation headquartered in Shanghai, China, that provides wind turbines and energy management software.

The companies will combine BASF’s new SYNSPIRE catalyst innovation with Envision’s process design expertise and AI-enabled energy management platforms. A demonstration of the integrated, dynamic production concept is slated at Envision’s facility in China’s Inner Mongolia region next year.

E-methanol manufactured using renewable energy offers immense potential as a sustainable fuel alternative across transportation sectors and energy-intensive industries. It can directly replace gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene, with no infrastructure changes needed thanks to its stability and clean-burning properties.

By leveraging complementary capabilities, BASF and Envision Energy aim to fully unlock the promise of Power-to-X e-methanol production from hydrogen and captured CO2. The partnership exemplifies the spirit of collaboration vital to driving meaningful progress on the global energy transition.

BASF Senior Vice President Detlef Ruff said: “We look forward to working with Envision to realize the full potential of converting green hydrogen and carbon dioxide into e-methanol through our innovative catalyst solution.”

Envision Vice President Frank Yu added: “Delivering sustainable energy advancement requires organizations coming together. This collaboration demonstrates our shared commitment to economically viable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.”
