BASF unveils new packaging for premium brake fluid in China

BASF has unveiled a new one-liter packaging of its premium brake fluid Hydraulan 404 for the Chinese aftermarket. The new packaging is bilingual to specifically address local market needs and provide convenience for Chinese body shops.

The brake system is one of the most important safety features of a vehicle. Therefore, it needs to meet the high standards required by automotive manufacturers, the automotive industry and automotive safety legislation.

“With the global know-how of our chemists and technicians, BASF has been setting the market standard of brake fluids for more than 60 years. We continuously develop and improve Hydraulan brake fluids to meet both the current and future needs of the industry, and maintain the highest safety requirements,” said Alice Wong, vice president, Fuel and Lubricant Solutions Asia Pacific, BASF East Asia Regional Headquarters Ltd.

The viscosity and boiling points determine the performance of a brake fluid. Hydraulan 404 premium brake fluid provides a boiling point of at least 265°C and a wet boiling point of at least 175°C, delivering reliability to the brake system. Its low viscosity at low temperatures enables faster response times and ensures higher safety standard, especially recommended for modern brake systems which may also include features such as electronic stability, anti-lock and traction control systems. In addition, Hydraulan 404 contains effective corrosion inhibitors and antioxidants to protect the components in the brake system.

Increasing demand for motor vehicles, especially in China, has led to a continuously growing demand for brake fluids from 2010. To be near to its markets and customers, BASF inaugurated brake fluid production at Pudong, Shanghai, China in 2013.

“We invest locally to support the growth of our customers in the automotive industry. We work with a state-of-the-art quality management systems and check every step of the process: from the raw material through to production and distribution to guarantee our customers high standards of quality and reliability of supply,” Wong said.

Hydraulan brake fluid production in the Pudong plant has passed all certification audits conducted by standards auditor TÜV Rheinland Shanghai, in accordance with ISO/TS 16949:2009 in December 2012.

BASF has also been certified in compliance with the ISO 14001:2004 in its production process of Hydraulan for contribution to environmental protection.
