EGAT, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, is partnering with Wallbox Chargers SL., Spain to develop a business of small smart EV chargers in Thailand. EGAT is the only one that is entitled to provide service and install equipment under the Wallbox brand in Thailand.

EGAT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Wallbox Chargers SL., a start-up from Spain, on September 28, according to Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, EGAT deputy governor – Strategy.

EGAT is Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for electric power generation and transmission for the whole country as well as bulk electric energy sales.

Wallbox Chargers is the first one in the world that has succeeded in developing and manufacturing equipment for small smart bi-directional charger for installation in households.

The MOU aims to jointly develop Smart EV Charger Solution Vehicle to Grid. Wallbox Chargers will provide and assist EGAT in developing a suitable smart EV charger solution business for Thailand. Meanwhile, EGAT will work with the National Control Center to amend rules and regulations of supplying power from vehicle back to the grid (Grid Code) for Thailand’s Energy Regulatory Commission to consider, in order that the power system will support the Virtual Power Plant in the future, when the surplus power from the EV battery can be sold back to the grid. When peak demand occurs, it can also help support the power system security. EGAT is the only one that is entitled to provide service and install equipment, including Software myWallbox service in controlling EV Charging Station System of manufactures under Wallbox brand.

Wallbox is a smart bi-directional charger to be installed on the wall in the household. It is modern, compact, lightweight, easy-to-install, and achieves the European standard, with its special feature of supplying the electricity from the vehicle back to the grid. Moreover, it can control demand and many systems, such as power sharing among many chargers for supplying the electricity to each vehicle with various required electrical power, and automatic & dynamic load management (power boost) system that helps increase or decrease power for charging the electric cars in various time to reduce opportunities of demand charge, leading to the decline of electricity cost.

In the first phase, EGAT will provide Wallbox service for car manufacturers and is developing business models for hotels, tourist attractions, and other organisations.
