LIQUI MOLY posts record output in 2021, despite adversities

German lubricant manufacturer LIQUI MOLY GmbH announced that its annual production has reached in excess of 100,000 tonnes for the first time in its history.

The company said it produced 105,000 tonnes of lubricants in 2021, a 27% increase from the previous year.

“For the first time, we have passed the 100,000-tonne mark,” says Managing Director Ernst Prost. “What would be a strong performance anyway is even more impressive against the backdrop of adverse conditions.”

These adverse conditions include the shortage of raw materials, which not only upset the price structure but led to bottlenecks, and distortions in global logistics, which made it equally difficult to obtain the raw materials, i.e., base oil and lubricant additives, and then ship the finished lubricants to customers. All this against a backdrop of increasingly numerous types of oil that are becoming more and more difficult to produce, making production even more complex.

LIQUI MOLY production volume increased this year not only for oils, but also for aftermarket additives. A total of 16.3 million cans of additives for fuel, oil and coolant came off the production line – an increase of 14% compared to 2020.

“The fact that we achieved this is thanks to our great team, which has overcome the hurdles with a great deal of improvisation, talent and flexibility,” saysProst. “Our continuous investment in modernizing production and logistics has also paid off.”

With about 1,000 employees, LIQUI MOLY produces 4,000 items including lubricants, motor oils, additives, vehicle care products, chemical repair tools, service products, glues and sealants.

Headquartered in Ulm, Germany, the company had sales of EUR611 million (USD691 million) and exports to more than 150 countries. It is owned by the Würth Group, a worldwide wholesaler of fasteners, screws and screw accessories, dowels, chemicals, electronic and electromechanical components, furniture and construction fittings, tools, machines, installation material, automotive hardware, inventory management, storage and retrieval systems, based in Künzelsau, Germany.
