Chery to assemble cars in Thailand

An industry source confirmed that China’s fourth-largest carmaker and its largest homegrown automobile manufacturer, Chery Automobile Co, has signed an agreement with Thai Chery Yarnyon to assemble Chery vehicles in Thailand. The source declined to say when production would begin and whether a new assembly plant would be built, or if it would use the two existing plants at Lat Krabang in Bangkok which belongs to Yontrakit Corp. The two plants are inactive, after BMW shifted production to Rayong and other European brands halted assembly. (November 28, 2008)
