China to unveil new energy plan

China’s new energy industry revitalization plan has been renamed the “Emerging Energy Development Plan,” said Sun Qin, deputy director at the National Energy Administration. As an important energy producer and consumer in Asia, China is putting more focus on developing both new sources of energy and emerging energy. China classifies emerging energy into two categories. First category is new energy like wind power, solar energy, and biological energy; second is related to energy generated from technological innovations, such as high efficiency and clean utilization of coal, alternative fuels for transportation as well as intelligent power grid. He said the new plan will be unveiled within this year. (August 10, 2009)
