Indonesia’s subsidized fuel consumption reaches 50.93%

The average subsidized fuel consumption in Indonesia in the first semester of 2010 reached 50.93%, contributed especially by diesel fuel consumption, which had hit 55.55% of the quota in the 2010 revised state budget. Tubagus Haryono, head of the downstream oil and gas regulatory agency BPH Migas, revealed this based on report by state oil company, Pertamina. Previously, Deputy Minister of Finance Anny Ratnawati explained the realization of subsidized fuel consumption as of May had reached 15.4 million kiloliters or 42.1%. Based on the realization, Anny, who is also Director General of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, had reminded the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to evaluate oil spending, the realization of which had been higher than the average monthly consumption. The increase in subsidized fuel consumption, explained Anny, was triggered by a surge in fuel consumption by motorcycles. (July 17, 2010)
