Petronas Lubricants seals pact with Mercedes AMG F1

Petronas Lubricants International Sdn Bhd, the lubricants business arm of Malaysia’s state-owned Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), sealed a pact with the Mercedes AMG Formula One team to push the Petronas Syntium brand to a higher level.
The one-year contract, which sees the appointment of Mercedes AMG Formula One team driver Lewis Hamilton as the technical performance consultant for Petronas Syntium, also makes the company the total fluids provider for the Mercedes AMG Formula One team.
It will now supply fuel, engine and gear oil, hydraulics and other functional fluids for the team at its official test programmes and races under the FIA Formula One World Championship.
“They (Mercedes) have launched the A45 AMG engine, which is designed based on the Syntium and we have been working on the product since last year,” Petronas Motorsport General Manager Anita Azrina Abd Aziz said.
Hamilton, who had been appointed the global brand ambassador for Petronas Syntium early this year, will provide his input and feedback on the performance of the product on the race track.
Petronas Motorsport division was established in the 1980s as part of the company’s strategies to push its brand overseas.
Petronas Lubricants manufactures, markets and distributes high-end lubricants and transmission, anti-freeze and functional fluids for land transportation, machinery and other industrial equipment.
It is ranked among the top 15 lubricant companies in the world and has operations in more than 80 countries, including in the Asia Pacific and Europe.
