In a statement issued on Friday, the PIAF Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Vice Chairmen Iqbal Baig Chugtai and Khawaja Shahzeb Akram said that they were unable to understand the logic for imposition of Carbon tax on CNG which is a green fuel. They, however, urged the Prime Minister to withdraw Carbon Tax on petroleum Products also as any further increase in the petroleum prices would hit the entire industrial sector. They appreciated that instead of making it a prestige issue the government has acceded to the popular demand. They hoped that the damaging clauses in the finance bill would also be withdrawn with the same spirit in the larger interest of the economy. The PIAF leaders appealed to the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani to help bring the rate of markup down in the larger interests of the industrial sector. (June 20, 2009)
