Renault to open new logistics unit in India

French automaker Renault has set up a new logistics facility in Pune, western India, which will form part of its global supply network, according to Reuters. Renault plans to export finished components from the center to its manufacturing facilities around the world. “While the needs of Indian automotive buyers will be addressed through the Renault range of passenger vehicles, the Pune facility will help support the international development of Renault”, according to Sylvain Bilaine, managing director for Renault India. Reuters reported that Renault expects this facility to contribute around 200 million (US$316.87 million) in component exports by the end of 2009. It has used the opportunity of the opening of the center to highlight its commitment to this fast-growing market. “The logistics network facility is another milestone in our commitment to the Indian market. We appreciate the fact that India is not only a big market for cars, but also possess some of the best and smartest minds in a variety of fields such as design, engineering and manufacturing, etc.,” said Bilaine.
