UMW Pennzoil expects new product range to fuel sales

UMW Pennzoil Distributors Sdn Bhd expects new product launches to help mitigate a projected 10 to 15% drop in sales due to the economic slowdown this year. “While the sales decline will affect us, we believe that this new product launch will help boost sales by 25 to 30%, balancing out the negative effects of the economic slowdown,” UMW Pennzoil General Manager Mohd Ruslan Abdul Ghani said. Pennzoil has 18% market share of the estimated 1.3 billion ringgit (US$361.2 million) local motor oil markets. The company would not reduce spending on advertising and promotions but will instead look to maximizing returns on such spending. Pennzoil’s new “Feel The Clean” line of motor oil for cars covers a range of 10 motor oil variants including Synthetic Platinum series for newer cars and the mineral base oils for older cars. This new range of lubricants is specially formulated with active cleansing agents, designed to enhance prevention dirt and deposits in the engine. This new technology is expected to increase fuel economy, engine protection and overall performance of passenger cars. (March 18, 2009)
