Viaspace Inc. produces renewable low-carbon energy source

U.S.-based VIASPACE Inc. announcedthat it plans to expand production of its proprietary grass feedstock, which is targeted for use in the production of low-carbon biofuels, including cellulosic ethanol, methanol and green gasoline. Viaspace holds a worldwide license to grow and cultivate Giant King Grass, a perennial fast-growing plant that can be harvested four times a year, and has a plantation in Guangdong Province in China, which it first planted with 1.2 million seedlings in 2008. As a result, the company claims its plans to supply the biofuels market with grass are consistent with a growing effort to not only reduce carbon emissions but also avoid the use of edible produce, such as corn, for fuel.
