Institute of Materials releases 2019 engine oil online database

Midland, Michigan–The Institute of Materials’ (IOM) online database provides the lubricant industry with unprecedented access to reliable, unbiased engine oil data to assist in making decisions from assessing oil quality in the marketplace to discovering trends in technology. The 2019 global oil collection and testing are now complete and the data is available. With this wealth of data generated from testing thousands of engine oils, IOM’s database has become a respected source of independent information on engine oil properties, and the foundation for many technical projects worldwide.

With access to over 18,000 engine oils and almost 18 million data points, this unbiased data has assisted corporations and companies, large and small, comparing crucial competitor properties, auditing blend consistency, monitoring formulation changes, and more.  The database provides a powerful, user-friendly interface to help locate, filter and query the information extracted precisely the way the subscriber needs it.

“It is an exciting time for IOM as we plan to launch our “just in time” database model early this year.  Our customers have asked for earlier releases of data and we have listened,” said Norm Kanar, Marketing & Sales Manager for Institute of Materials.  “In 2020, as the oils are collected and tested by geography, the data will be uploaded within 60 days from collection. The new model provides timely, fresh, and relevant data throughout the year.  Included in our collection for 2020 are oils that are reported to comply with the ILSAC GF-6 specifications, a new motor oil specification that will provide improved fuel economy and protection for modern-day engines compared to prior specifications.”
