GM to boost production of Chevrolet Volt by 30%

U.S.-based General Motors (GM) announced that it will boost the production of its electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, by 30% to 60,000 vehicles next year. The Volt is currently on sale in nine states only in the U.S., with long waiting lists at dealerships, and will be available nationwide at the end of this year. The company will be closing its Hamtramck, Michigan, factory for four weeks in June to renovate the factory. Cristi Landy, director of Chevrolet Volt marketing, said, “By taking the time to reconfigure the plant, we will be better able to meet the tremendous consumer demand.” The increase in production will allow the company to outsell Nissan’s Leaf electric car.
