Off-spec gasoline lands in Vietnam

Vietnam has found its first case of off-spec gasoline delivered to the country this year, an official overseeing quality issues said. The gasoline was found to have a benzene content of nearly 3%, Hoang Lam, vice director of the Quality Assurance and Testing Center 3 (QUATEST 3), said. Vietnam’s fuel standards specify a maximum benzene content of 2.5% by volume. QUATEST 3 is part of the government’s directorate for standards and quality, which is in under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Media reports said the off spec 92 RON gasoline was part of a shipment from Singapore by state-owned oil products importer Petro Mekong. (March 8, 2009)
